was chased all the way from Bowmore’s
Round Church into the gates of Bowmore Distillery, only
to escape – so it’s said – in a whisky cask bound for
the mainland. What you’ll be less familiar with is the
devilishly inspired cask selection for this latest
release.
Matured in
the finest first fill sherry casks, Oloroso and Pedrox
Ximenez.
Bowmore’s third, and final, release in the sought
after Devil’s Casks series is our most intensely
satisfying yet. Marrying spirits matured in both dry
Oloroso sherry casks and – for the first time – sweet
Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, which bring an incredible
intensity and remarkable richness.

first-fill ex-bourbon casks, our Master Blender has
selected a range of casks that create a tropical storm
for the sixth series. One moment your face is washed by
the full force of a typhoon, with its salty sea tang.
Then next you feel the warmth of the sun’s golden rays
on your skin as the clouds disperse and a magical calm
descends. Welcome to Islay, where the seasons, moods and
flavours all collide.
So far we have
released six batches of the Tempest Batch numbers 1
(2009), 2 (2010), 3 (2011), 4 (2012), 5 (2014) and 6
(2015).

Black Rock
is described as a rich,
single malt and is named after the jagged outcrop visible from the
distillery, which is situated on the shores of Loch Indaal. The spirit
is matured in first-fill, ex-Spanish sherry casks to give it a balanced
flavour of peat smoke, treacle toffee and orange.
Gold Reef
is matured in first-fill, ex-bourbon casks, which gives it deep golden
hues and flavours of vanilla, citrus fruits and coconut.
Inspired by the beaches of The Big Strand and Laggan Bay, which are just
south of the Bowmore Distillery, White Sands 17 Year Old
has, as
the name suggests, been matured for 17 years in Bowmore’s No.1 Vaults –
said to be the oldest maturation warehouses in Scotland. The end result
are notes of rich and ripe exotic fruits blended with malty sweetness
and warm peat smoke. |
